You all might recall the copart 2012 e350 bluetec I have that has a timing chain issue. Engine rotates, cam turns, cam stops engine continues a bit then stops. Turn engine backward crank turns, cam doesn’t turn, cam then starts turning. It’s still covered under the bluetec modification recall.
Stopped by my local MB dealer which happened to do the work in 2023. Car has roughly 25k miles on it since then. I asked him if he has had much dealings with the warranty. He looked at me like I was crazy on a car that old. Told him what the issue was and what the warranty supposedly covered. He pulls the car up, does some reading and scratching his head, then prints off the warranty info reading thru it. Says well we will have to get it in here and treat it like a normal diagnosis initially and see if it’s covered. If not I’m out an hour of diagnosing time. I would think the dealer wouldn’t mind getting paid to do the work so hopefully they are smart enough to get it pushed thru. I then asked about getting it towed. He says no MB won’t do that. Today I called MBUSA and they have a truck on the way to pick it up for free.
So will be interesting to see what if anything we get MB to cover. If they do, I’m sure the dealer will still come up with non covered items I have to pay for.
I’m assuming the chain jumped time and the valves are hitting. Or perhaps a chain rail or something broke and is jamming it up.
