[Mercedes] Smart, or Dumb?

So my buddy with the shop asks me if I want a Smart car with a bad engine, head gasket blown out.  Owner paid $3k for it recently and for some reason the engine blew, coolant left the chat or something.  Anyway, fixing the engine might or might not be possible, and in any case the owner did not want to spend the money on it.  I said $500 sight unseen but ask the owner what s/he would take for it.  He calls me back, owner is sitting there, says make an offer.  I offer $500 owner says SOLD!

I went to pick it up yesterday with my little trailer I haul my little Kubota on, the Smarts fit nicely on it.  Car is not too bad looking, driver seat is a bit tatty, some clear coat on the LR fender is gone.  I have another engine I can put in this one, or into the other one I have that needs an engine, or maybe try a new head gasket on either one, see how that works.

I don’t know why, but $500.

The shed should be finished this week, I need some projects to fill it.  The lift showed up Thursday, I’ll get the crew to set it up with the telehandler.
