[MBZ] "Way, way wrong"

In '81 I was between MBs and I had a '68 Bug winter-driving-in-Indiana-rust
bucket. I lived about 250 miles from my grandparents in IL. My grandpappy
was languishing in a hsp bed finally getting kicked in the booty by the 3-4
packs of Pall Malls he hammered down for 60 or 70 years. My grandmother
called me one night at 10 pm or so and said I better come home 'cause it
looks like it's his time. I took off in the pouring rain and drove about 150
miles when the gen light came on. I stopped without shutting the car down,
lifted the lid and saw the belt was gone. I took off the rear deck lid,
threw it in a snow drift, and continued driving really fast. The whole rest
of the trip I could smell the engine and other things which were quite hot.
I was not going to stop. As I put the clutch in to turn into hsp parking
lot, the engine came to the most abrupt stop anything mechanical ever has
done. I coasted into a parking space, got out in the rain and looked at my
"engine" which looked like a steam plant gone bad.
The " Deutsche Automobilgötter" were with me that night.
