The R129 is a great car. My first one had all the problems of the mid-90s
cars, like the bad wires etc.

Fortunately, that had been resolved on my SL320. When I needed to replace
that car, I searched for another 129.

Mine is my daily driver. I can drive to Costco and get a month's worth of
crap in the trunk.

Its a comfortable driver, and gets 25mpg on the highway. I bought this car
on July 10, 2003 and overpaid a little bit, but it was the best car
available at the time. I traveled to Chicago to buy it, paid $23,500. I am
the second owner and the car always was dealer serviced (Knauz) prior to my
purchase. It had 68,945 miles on it when I bought it.

Other than routine maintenance, the only large expense was

Replace ACC Blower Motor & housing/blower-motor mount
Replace Aux Water Pump and Center Vent Assembly

In July, 2005. The aux water pump didn't really need replacement, but the
dealer threw parts at the car in order to find out why my climate control
didn't work. Since the aux pump had been installed, it wasn't worth it to
remove.

That whole event still rankles me. The whole reason I took the car to the
dealer was so the problem could be professionally diagnosed. Boy was I dumb
about that

That episode also showed me what a fine and honest businessman Rusty is.

Now the car has 103,000 miles on it, and I regularly drive between St Louis
and Cincinnati with no concerns.
