Not so! The leather of my '85 190D 2.0 has pin holes and pleats that run 
up the seatback most of the way and forward along the seat bottom to 
within a 5" of the front of the seat and these pleats are perforated - 
just like the TEX on my other cars. The 5" boundary area of the leather 
seats is NOT perforated!

illustrates the most prominent difference (the 5" unperforated boundary 
area for leather and the pleats that don't reach the front seat extreme) 
between TEX (far side) and leather (driver's side) at least for mid '80s 
cars. Careful examination of the perforations in my cars shows them to 
actually be tiny "x"s (with a hole in the middle and axis diagonal) in 
TEX and "+"s (axis horizontal and vertical) in leather.
