"This ASIC engineer has been out of work since May. No sign
of hiring in my field, or in related ones I'm probably still
qualified in. One complication: I will not relocate to some
wretched hell-on-earth like Silicon Valley. We have acreage,
something you cannot find in a whole lot of places. _This_
is where we are going to raise our son."

Again my theory about having a white collar skill and a blue collar skill
such as heavy equipment operator or welding certificate. Especially us
rural folks, have to be survivors, like our fore parents. Ditto on not every
moving to the viper pit areas "some
wretched hell-on-earth like", New York, LA, SF, Boston. If you do have to
go there do the weekend warrior thing, leave the kids in a safe spot.
Remember we own diesels, they love those 600 mile one way trips./ Tom
